Why is Jesus’ return like a wedding?

Let us rejoice and be glad
    and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready.
Fine linen, bright and clean,
    was given her to wear.”
(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.) Revelation 19:7-8
At a wedding, a virgin bride awaits the arrival of her groom to be reunited in lifelong matrimony.  He swoops her up and takes her to his home where they live happily ever after.  Right?  Not always the case, but it is the ending that we like.
Jesus will one day return to take his bride (the church) who is now sinless because he died for their sins.  He will carry us all away to his eternal home where we live happily ever after… forever.  That moment of reuniting, the second coming of Jesus, will be like a wedding day, anticipated and beautiful.
