Wives, in
the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do
not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of
their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your
lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment,
such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it
should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet
spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. 1 Peter
3:1-4
The
apostle Peter told a wife to love her husband unconditionally, to be pure,
reverent and respectful (not nagging, invasive and unmerciful). He told the wife to shine beauty from the
inside, a beauty that can only come from a relationship with Christ. She must be gentle with her lost husband and
stay quiet at times when she wants to speak, especially on the topic of his
faith.
God
loves that husband and the Holy Spirit is doing everything in His power to
encourage that husband to submit to God.
The husband learns submission by his earthly example—his wife. Respect the husband even while knowing he’s
wrong about God.
Prayer
and submission are a wife’s greatest weapons.
