Why didn’t God see his creation as “very good” until man was created?

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. Genesis 1:31

Up to that point, the creation was nothing but scenery and creatures, like a beautiful pristine zoo with no one around to appreciate it.

The “very good” status of earth occurred when people arrived because God valued people.  People can love with their freewill.  Animals respond by instinct.  God now had something on earth He could relate to on His level, someone He could love and be loved back.

This shows that God created all the earth, space and animal life as a gift for a His prized possession, His ultimate masterpiece – people.
