He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name don’t torture me!” For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!” Mark 5:7-8

            Torture for an evil spirit means separation.  God punished Satan by separating him from heaven and casting him to earth.  Jesus told the spirits in the man in the graveyard to come out, separating them from the place they felt empowered and free, inside a person.  In Revelation, the ultimate torture is the lake of fire, separated from humanity, God and the earth forever.  This is the same torture people feel who are in hell, separated from God.  They live without purpose and without hope.  That even hurts a demon.
