Woe
to those who go down to Egypt for help,
who rely on horses,
who trust in the multitude of their chariots
and in the great strength of their horsemen,
but do not look to the Holy One of Israel,
or seek help from the Lord.

Egypt was an enemy to
Israel but, at times, Egypt’s enemy was Israel’s enemy, so some kings like
Hoshea and Hezekiah turned to Egypt for help. This infuriated God who wondered why they
turned to another nation for help when they had God on their side.
