Blessed and
holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no
power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign
with him for a thousand years.
Revelation 20:6
Then death
and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second
death. Revelation 20:14
Death
is separation. Because of Adam and Eve’s
original sin, all who sin will be cursed with separation. The first death is separation from this earth
when the body quits functioning. The
spirit lives on and experiences a second separation—from God.
When
Jesus said he is life, he’s referring to his conquering of the second
death. The first death is inevitable
(separation from earth) but the second death (separation from God) will not
happen if the person believes in Jesus.
