“On the day
of firstfruits, when you present to the Lord an offering of new grain
during the Festival of Weeks, hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work.” Numbers 28:26
The
Festival of Weeks was also known as The Day of the Firstfruits, but it has
another name, known better today: Pentecost.
Pentecost/Festival
of Weeks occurred seven weeks (or fifty days) after the Feast of the
Firstfruits, which started at Passover and the beginning of the barley
harvest. Pentecost celebrated the final
harvest and thanked God for the provision.
Offerings were made at the Festival of Weeks and no work was done.
