What is faith?

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.  Hebrews 11:1
Hebrews chapter 11 gives a quick account of faith stories from the Old Testament.  The writer shows how people like Abraham, Noah, Abel, Enoch and others showed their faith.  Here is an overview of the conclusions made about faith from these stories:
·         If you have faith, you give your best. (verse 4)
·         If you have faith, you please God by trusting him even though you don’t see him. (verse 6)
·         If you have faith, you will go where you are called.  (verse 8)
·         If you have faith, you look forward to God’s promises.  (verse 10)
·         If you have faith, you hold on to it until you die.  (verse 13)
·         If you have faith, you’re okay even if you don’t see the promise in your lifetime.  (verse 13)
·         If you have faith, you look forward to your heavenly reward. (verse 16)
·         If you have faith, you’re willing to sacrifice. (verse 17)
·         If you have faith, you don’t look for the easiest, safest way to live. (verse 24)
·         If you have faith, you choose mistreatment over pleasure. (verse 25)
·         If you have faith, you’ll go wherever you need to go.  (verse 27)
·         If you have faith, you’re willing to die. (verse 34)
