Even now my witness is in heaven;
my advocate
is on high.
My intercessor is my friend
as my eyes pour out tears to God;
on behalf of a man he pleads with God
as one pleads for a friend. Job 16:19-21

The
Lord
would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua
son of Nun did not leave the tent.
Exodus 33:11
As humans, we have many relationships. We relate to them all differently. You don’t treat your friend like you do your
spouse, but you can treat your spouse like a friend.
Your boss can be your friend, but there are times when
you must treat your boss differently, with respect and as a servant. Later on, you can go out to dinner and act
like friends.
God is not only the supreme authority who we must fear,
but he presents himself also as a Father and a friend. He doesn’t want our relationship with him to
be solely on an authority/servant level or a king/subject level, but a
Father/child and a friend to friend level.
There are times we will go to him in different ways. We approach a king for some needs. A father for other needs. A friend for other needs.
God wants us to see him as all of the above because he
meets all our needs in every way possible.
