God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day. Genesis
1:8
Time
is not the focus of these passages.
Creation is. The amount of time
God took to create the heavens and earth (“when”) are not as important as the
Creator (“who”).
God could create a solar system in 7 seconds. He doesn't 24 hours.
The
creation account gives a detailed, orderly explanation of God’s process in bringing
everything into being. It’s not a
biology book though it explains the origins of biology.
The
writer (Moses) lays out creation in a seven-day explanation to set up the idea
of the Sabbath day of rest (God made that day “holy”). Our week is a celebration of God’s creation
and power.
