Why is Abram given such special treatment?

The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you. “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” Genesis 12:1-3

God is waiting for one person who shows such faith in Him that he would be willing to pack up, move and go wherever God says. It took many generations, but eventually Abram showed that faith. He is human, not perfect, prone at times to succumb to the pressures of life and forget the promises of God.

In that we see he is very much like us, not special at all.

But is God’s call really considered “special treatment”? God asked Abram to leave his hometown and made his life more difficult. Abram will experience heart ache, especially between Hagar and Ishmael. He will give birth to a people who will enemies to Israel to this day. Special treatment?  God’s call adds difficulties to our lives.

While Abram received great rewards, he needed to display great faith. That sort of special treatment does not come easy.
