How tall are the mountains of Ararat?

The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered. The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than twenty feet. Genesis 7:18-20

The mountains of Ararat are located in southeast Turkey and are approximately 16,948 feet high. The location is very near the Tigris, one of the spots indicated in the Garden of Eden.

This is an important question in order to understand the height of the flood at Noah's time.

How much water would it take to flood the entire earth to a height of 7000 feet high PLUS 20 more feet? More water than possible. And where did all that water go?

We would be living in slush and mud pits with all that water.

However, if you look at Turkey, it is surrounded by mountains (Pontic, Koroglu, Taurus mountain chains), making it a perfect “bowl” to be filled with water. The mountains could encase and fill with water, flooding it, then, over days, spill out into other parts of the region or world.

This makes a case for a local flood.
