Why does God ask that we be thankful?

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15

It may sound cliché to say your gratitude affects your attitude, but it’s true. Thankfulness redirects your attention away from yourself and focuses in on others. It acknowledges that everything you do and everything you have is not from your efforts alone, but from God who blesses you.

Thankfulness includes appreciation for what you have and chases away discontent for what you don’t.

Thankfulness does inventory of your surroundings, finding areas of your life that you have neglected or undervalued and raises them to new levels of love.

Thankfulness destroys our ego and keeps our attention off ourselves.

So be thankful and you won't be selfish, envious or greedy.
