Why can’t people be accepting towards people who want a “clean slate”?

. . .let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. . . Hebrews 10:22

The world has a problem with people who think they can receive a clean slate through forgiveness. Being forgiven of every sin sounds too incredible to fathom. The idea of forgiveness is appealing to everyone, but many wonder what is required to receive that forgiveness. What must they give up?

It’s a contradiction, but many want to be forgiven of their sins without admitting they are wrong and without actually giving up the sin itself.

Those who claim they are forgiven sound “holier than thou.” However, receiving forgiveness requires admitting that one isn’t holy at all.
