When was Christ born?

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.” Matthew 2:1-2

A monk named Dionysius Exiguus in the sixth century was assigned to calculate the calendar based on the birth of Jesus. He made some miscalculations, missing a few years.

While we don’t know the exact date of Christ’s birth, we do know that King Herod died in 4 B.C. If Herod issued a decree for all two year old boys and under to be killed, it would be reasonable to deduct that Jesus was born at the very least two years before Herod’s death. That would put Jesus’ birth some where in the vicinity of 8-4 B.C. Therefore, Jesus was not born in 0 A.D, but more like 7 BC.
