When is the second coming of Jesus?

No one knows the time or date of the second coming of Christ. Anyone who says they do is wrong and a false prophet. Jesus spoke of the moment that He will return:
“No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” Matthew 24:36-44

It will be a time that no one expects it. We will be working and going about our business when all of a sudden, everything changes.

At that moment, some will go to be with Jesus, others will not.

We must be ready because it could happen any moment. We must live a life of expectancy.

We have assurance that this prophecy will come true because Jesus’ other predictions came true. Why not this one?

Just because it has not happened yet does not disprove its accuracy.

Peter gives us more clues about God’s heart and our response regarding the second coming:

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.
Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness. So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. 2 Peter 3:8-18

The apostle Peter tells us about Jesus' Second Coming:
  • God is not slow, but patient.  He hasn't forgotten.
  • He loves us and wants to make sure everyone who is going to accept Him, will accept Him.
  • Everything on earth will be destroyed.
  • It will happen fast.
  • Live holy and godly lives in the meantime.
  • God’s patience means salvation for others, so do your part to help.
