What is Judgment day?

In our court system, people stand trial and are declared guilty or not guilty. If guilty, they have another trial before the judge to determine their sentencing. According to the Bible, Judgment Day is the final day of reckoning, when all of mankind resurrects (spirit united with an eternal body) then faces a final sentencing for their sins.

Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. Revelation 20:11-13

This separation has already been predetermined before mankind arrives at the throne, a decision based on the lives of the individuals being judged and whether or not they accepted Christ as their savior while alive on earth. Those that did are in the book of life. Everyone’s lives are on trial to "judge" them on what they did with the evidence presented regarding Jesus Christ.

Did we accept Jesus or reject Jesus?

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.” Matthew 25:31-33

The people don’t show up to Judgment Day and see if they passed the test or made the cut. There is no weighing of good acts and bad acts. On Judgment Day, people clearly understand the next step in their eternity and why they are receiving their sentencing, based on their acceptance or rejection of a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Based on that judgment by God, those that accepted Christ go to be with Him for eternity.  Those that rejected Christ receive their desire to be without Him for eternity.

This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.  1 John 4:17-18

If you are in a relationship with Jesus Christ, there is no reason to fear Judgment Day.  Your love for Christ will drive out that fear.  You will be made perfect because of your love for him.
