How can you tell what special talent God has given you?

There is a difference between talents and gifts. Talents are abilities that we have studied and learned through school or practice, like playing the piano or playing baseball. These natural talents are determined by our family, heritage, friends, environment, monetary options, physical make up, those sorts of things.

Spiritual gifts are given to us by God. Their title “gifts” implies something given not earned.

We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. Romans 12:6-8

God gives us these gifts to build up the church. They are supernatural abilities to communicate, love or serve God and one another unlike anything we could do on our own.

The way you can tell your gift is through your passion for a certain area.  Spiritual gifts tests ask you to rate certain scenarios to see which you are more excited to be engaged in.  By the end of the test, you realize it was a passions test.

Your heart and your success in a certain area will tell you if God has gifted you.
