Being bald is not a curse or a sin. In fact, some
choose baldness, shaving their head. Our attitudes towards baldness have
changed over the years – even in the past few decades.
The Bible reveals different opinions towards baldness.
God, speaking through Isaiah, was upset with the Israelites and their snooty
attitude. He spoke of taking away their luxuries and desecrating their fashion
sense by humbling them.
instead of a sash, a rope;
instead of well-dressed hair, baldness;
instead of fine clothing, sackcloth;
instead of beauty, branding. Isaiah 3:24
This doesn’t mean God made them bald, but spoke
against their conceitedness. Hair made them haughty.
In Leviticus, a book for the Jewish priests, God gave
the priests the task of examining people and seeing whether they had an
infectious disease that would warrant quarantining them from the rest of the
population. Bald people were considered okay (clean):
“When a man has lost his hair and is bald, he is clean. If he has lost his hair from the front of his scalp and has a bald forehead, he is clean. Leviticus 13:40-41
So good news—baldness is not contagious or sinful!
In the Bible, the prophet Elisha was teased because he
was bald. God caused the teenagers who
teased Elisha to die. "Don't call
my prophet Baldy!"
In heaven, we receive a fully restored body, one free
of all impurities and diseases. Since Jesus healed the blind, the crippled and
the deaf/mute, we know that it is God’s intention for us to have sight, the use
of our limbs and hearing/speech.
Yet, Jesus never healed the bald.
So, a few ways to look at this answer about baldness
in heaven:
- We will have no pride or arrogance about our looks so we won’t care if we have hair or not.
- Every part of our body will be fully restored to what it was made to do. Hair follicles were meant to grow hair so they will grow hair.
- Those who had gone bald with age, will return to their youthful look with hair.
- Those who go bald as a result of disease, their hair will be restored.
We were meant to have hair and for some reason,
because of environment, age or a lack of some vitamin, that hair falls
out. God will give us a fully-follicled
head of hair and we'll all look like Fabio.
