I’m no psychologist, but sometimes imaginary friends are a barrier to reality. People speak to the imagined world in an effort to ignore the real world. While imaginary friends are not a sin, they could be a response to someone’s sin or an effort to deal with another person’s sin that effects them.

We must be careful and understand that the spirit world is very real and Satan and his demons speak to us in whispers and suggestions. We may misinterpret those voices as “friends.”
