Here I learned about the evil thing Eliashib had done in providing Tobiah a room in the courts of the house of God.  I was greatly displeased and threw all Tobiah’s household goods out of the room. Nehemiah 13:7-8

            The temple was to be a place of purity, kept cleansed by a number of rules the priests were responsible to keep.  By allowing a non-Jew to stay inside corrupted the purity of a place that had to be operated by people who were 100% Jewish, from the line of Levi.

            Nehemiah got frustrated with the lackadaisical focus of the Levites who allowed people to do whatever they wanted to do.  It was that attitude that caused God’s judgment on Israel, kicking them out of their own country because of centuries of disobedience.

            Nehemiah saw that attitude happening again.
