They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing him. Luke 24:14-16
When we
read the scriptures about resurrected Jesus, we understand some things about
our future resurrected bodies. One thing
is that resurrected bodies are not limited to time, space and matter. While Jesus could WALK and TALK in this
world, he could also keep from being recognized, an ability he performed with
Mary Magdalene at the garden tomb and with the two walking to Emmaus.
When he was at the table with
them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their
eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight.
Luke 24:30-31
Jesus
could disappear from one place and appear in another.
While they were still talking
about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” Luke 24:36
Heavenly
bodies will have hands and feet. They
will have substance and recognizable features.
They were startled and
frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. He said to
them, “Why are
you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? Look at my hands and my feet. It is I
myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I
have.” Luke 24:37-39
In addition, the resurrected body
of Jesus ate.
When he had said this, he
showed them his hands and feet. And while they still did not
believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” They gave
him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate it in
their presence. Luke 24:40-43
Resurrected
bodies will have earthly features. We will
be recognizable by others. We will be
able to touch and feel, eat and drink.
But our bodies will not be confined by time, space and matter, but
eternal in nature, but earthly in appearance.
