“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” Luke 22:31-32
Sifting wheat is a
grinding process that tears and rips at the plant to get something from
it. Satan wanted to tear into Peter,
seeing him as the leader, in hopes of bringing him down. Jesus prayed that the sifting would only go
so far. Sifting through someone is a
painful process that could cause terrible harm or incredible good, depending on
who is behind it and what is their purpose.
