Was Jesus King of Jews?

Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”

“You have said so,” Jesus replied. Matthew 27:11

Above his head they placed the written charge against him: this is jesus, the king of the jews. Matthew 27:37

Yes, Jesus was the ruler over the Jews—their creator, God and Lord.  However, nobody wanted to give him that title.  Even though the sign over his cross mocked his title, it was true.  His title as King was not limited to only the Jews.  He was King of the Gentiles.  King of the Romans.  King of the Americans today.  That title was just the beginning because Jesus’ purpose was to come first to the Jews then to everyone else so all would recognize him as king.
