“But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” Matthew 12:36-37
Everyone
will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they
spoke. “Empty” here means “idle or
lazy.” So even the casual words tossed
out without thinking will be judged by God.
That means even the spiteful, conscious, purposeful, hateful,
pre-meditated words will be judged also.
We will “give an account” but that doesn’t mean we will be found
guilty. Jesus paid for our sins, even
every empty, lazy word we’ve spoken.
