“But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.” Matthew 5:39-42
Being a doormat is a matter of
perspective. You can be used by others
to fulfill their own desires or used by God to point people to him.
Jesus wanted people to not always
feel like they were entitled or deserved respect. In tough situations, Christians need to
assume the position of servant. They
need to give and not just take or receive.
It’s a difficult call to make and
sometimes it may enable certain people in your life to take advantage of you,
but in the end, God knows what you did and your intentions and he’s pleased
with your heart.
