Why did Jesus say he was king of the Jews?

“Are you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate.

“You have said so,” Jesus replied.  Mark 15:2

Jesus was king of the Jews, he wasn’t lying.  He was and is king of all creation, the king of all kings.  The answer was truthful, but not in the context Pilate asked.  Pilate thought Jesus meant the self-appointed king politically of the Jews in Jerusalem and Israel.  Roman could not allow a ruler to rise up without their consent.  Jesus was more than just that and answered Pilate spiritually.
