Last night an angel of the
God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me and said,
‘Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has
graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.’ Acts 27:23-24
The
Bible doesn’t show Paul’s encounter with Caesar but since an angel guaranteed
that Paul would, we believe it happened.
It seems that Paul’s Roman citizenship right to be heard by Caesar was
orchestrated by God so Paul could talk to the supreme leader of Rome. Technically, he could have been released, but
events continued to push him toward that meeting. Hopefully, Paul had an opportunity to witness
to this Caesar, who many believe was Nero—the most psychopathic leader in Roman
history who killed many Christians.
