All of us have become like one who is unclean,
and
all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,
and like the wind our sins sweep us away. Isaiah 64:6

It’s not saying our good deeds
(righteous acts) are bad, but they are like filthy rags because they were not
done with the right motives. The people
of Israel had forgotten their love for God and turned to religious
routines. They did things for selfish
reason, not for God’s reasons. That’s
when things get dirty in our lives and our deeds become corrupt.
