And I saw
the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened.
Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged
according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea
gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that
were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. Revelation 20:12-13
The book
of life records those who have given their lives to Christ and who have eternal
life. So is there an actual book? Maybe, but God knows so it’s not like he
needs a written reminder. The
description helps us to understand that it’s “written in ink.” We are known and our commitments are not
forgotten. It’s like being on the guest
list at an event. You get in (usually
for free) and get to enjoy all the privileges.
You want your
name in that book, because if it’s not, you are not allowed access to heaven.
