“A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or
fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is
holy to the Lord. Whoever
would redeem any of their tithe must add a fifth of the value to it. Every tithe of the herd and flock—every tenth
animal that passes under the shepherd’s rod—will be holy to the Lord.” Leviticus 27:30-32
While
Jesus came to fulfill the Old Testament rituals of the temple and animal
sacrifices, that didn’t mean we could stop giving tithes and offerings. Jesus performed the ultimate sacrifice, but
we must still sacrifice a tithe (10%) of our earnings.
Tithes
and offerings keep our churches open and our church staff focused. In the New Testament, Paul addressed offerings
given to finance his mission trips. Tithes
still show our trust in God to sustain us with 90% of our income. Tithing is good for us and still a practice
we must maintain.
