Not only
so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that
suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and
character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s
love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been
given to us. Romans 5:3-5
While suffering causes pain, it can produce some good
character traits in people. Suffering
can lead to perseverance/endurance. It
can develop a stronger character in someone, more maturity and stability. Suffering helps someone witness life from the
bottom looking up, eventually overcoming the obstacles and realizing time and
effort get people back on their feet.
Without suffering, life would operate on cruise control
and become boring, our spirits complacent.
We need suffering to wake us up to our need for God and our need for a
better character.
