You
adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity
against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes
an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that
he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us? James 4:4-5
If
we are in a relationship with God, then the world could be viewed as an
adulteress. Why? Because the world demands that we love her
exclusively while God demands the same thing.
We
can’t truly be friends with two opposing sides.
At some point, we have to reject one to show favor to the other. God wants us to love Him and reach out to the
world, pointing them to God. The world
wants us to love it and reject God, living as a worldly, sensual, pleasure-seeking
person.
God
is jealous of our relationship with the world, because we wink at it and send
flirty messages to the world all the time.
God wants all our love because its best for us.
