In the same
way, deacons are to be worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in
much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. They must
keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. They must
first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as
deacons. 1 Timothy 3:8-10
A deacon
is a servant in the church of high regard.
The term means a “waiter,” someone who does menial duties. They must fulfill certain qualities to be
entrusted with the care of the people.
According to 1 Timothy, those qualities are:
·
Respectable
·
Sincere
·
Not a drunkard
·
Not greedy
·
Follow truth
·
Have a clear
conscience (they know they are forgiven)
·
Be tested in life and
overcome
·
Be faithful to their
wife
·
Manage one’s kids and
wife well
·
Served well
·
In excellent standing
with others
·

their faith
While no one is perfect, they work
