He followed
the ways of the kings of Israel and also made idols for worshiping the Baals. He burned
sacrifices in the Valley of Ben Hinnom and sacrificed his children in the fire,
engaging in the detestable practices of the nations the Lord had driven out before the
Israelites. 2
Chronicles 28:2-3
It’s
unbelievable but true. People felt that
sacrificing their children in fire would do them some good. How could burning your child alive in flames
please a god? And why would you want to
worship a god who asked for such a heinous thing?
It’s
why the one true God hated these religions because they demanded terrible
sacrifices. They so misguided people to
do terribly selfish things like killing their own children for the benefit of
their own lives.
God sent his own
Son to die for the sins of people who killed their own sons. There’s no reason to do such terrible things
because God has already made the sacrifice for us.
Jesus’
death for our sins was not an example to follow with our own children, but a
final price paid for all so we did not have to suffer with pain.
