I will
stand at my watch
and station
myself on the ramparts;
I will look to see what he will say to me,
and what answer I am to give to this complaint. Habakkuk 2:1
I will look to see what he will say to me,
and what answer I am to give to this complaint. Habakkuk 2:1
While Jonah questioned God and ran
away from God’s will, Habakkuk questioned God and listened for an answer. Habakkuk didn’t like what he saw around
him. He watched as an evil superpower
(Babylon) rose to prominence and nothing seemed to stop them.
Habakkuk wondered if God saw what
was happening and asked how could a good God allow evil to rise. In these three chapters, Habakkuk asked three
questions then he listened for an answer.
God gave him one each time.
Habakkuk then understood and
accepted God’s will. He listened. He watched.
He understood.
It’s okay to question God if you’re
willing to listen to his answer. Many
question and feel powerful standing up to God, holding on to their self-imposed
throne, only to find themselves slipping away from God.
You won’t hurt God’s feelings if you
complain but you must be humble enough to understand that he has the ultimate
final answer. At least he’s patient
enough to explain it to you. Now, are
you humble enough to listen and accept it?
