Now the Lord provided a huge fish to
swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three
nights. Jonah 1:17
There have
been real life accounts of people swallowed by fish and kept alive for a period
of time. James Bartley in the late 1800s
was on a whaling expedition and survived inside a sperm whale for 36 hours. Getting a person into a fish’s stomach is not
impossible. Surviving for three days is
pretty miraculous. As for Bartley, the
whale died of constipation.
Some
sharks (whale sharks) are also large enough to swallow a human (obviously not
someone as large as Shaq) as long as they don’t chew their food on the way
down.
Let’s not
forget also, that if God wanted a fish to swallow a human and survive He could. It is a miracle, but there is some practical
evidence that proves it could happen.
