As the ark
of the covenant of the Lord was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched
from a window. And when she saw King David dancing and celebrating, she
despised him in her heart. 1 Chronicles
15:29
Michal
had preconceived notions on how a king should act—with proper decorum. David didn’t care especially for this moment,
when the ark entered Jerusalem for the first time. The importance of this moment escaped Michal,
who only saw this as an ordinary “moving day.”
The
problem was Michal’s heart, not David’s worship. Michal also probably thought David
disrespected the office of king and as queen felt disrespected too.
Michal
may also have felt guilty for not being as excited about God as her husband
was.
