“Go and
tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord says: You are not the one to build me a house to dwell in.” 1 Chronicles 17:4
God told David
later in 1 Chronicles 28 that because David was a warrior and shed so much
blood, he would not build the temple.
Instead, he would get all the materials needed through his diplomatic
relationships. Solomon, whose kingdom
was not a war, came in and built the temple.
David’s kingdom
fought the battles to bring the peace.
Solomon established the peace so that the temple was not looked upon as
a fortress, but a home where God would live and bring peace to the kingdom.
We can’t always
do what we want to do. Sometimes God has
plans for others to do what we want to do.
