Why are these pieces of armor assigned to these aspects of the Christian life?

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.  Ephesians 6:14-17
While a whole book could be written on this, here’s a quick summary.
Truth is a belt holding everything securely in place.
Righteousness is a breastplate protecting our heart relationship with God.
Readiness is footwear preparing us for anything that can happen.
Faith is a shield because we’re under attack by the enemy to make us doubt and fear.
Salvation is a helmet protecting the knowledge that we are forgiven through Jesus Christ and nothing can separate us from God.
The word of God is sword of the Spirit, an everlasting truth that grows dull but can be used to cripple any enemies trying to destroy you.
