As for you, you were dead in
your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world
and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in
those who are disobedient. All of us
also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and
following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving
of wrath. Ephesians 2:1-3
When
Adam committed the first sin, the curse of his sin was returning to the dust of
the earth—physical death. We were meant
to live forever on earth in unison and harmony with God. Our spirits, though, are eternal and would
continue to live in that separation—dead physically and dead spiritually. The “spirit of this earth” (aka Satan)
wants to separate us from God and follow the cravings of the flesh. However, if the Spirit of God lives inside us, nothing can separate us from the love of God.
