in Moab after he had divorced his wives Hushim and Baara. 1 Chronicles 8:8
In the
Bible, these are the only people who are mentioned by name as being
divorced.
Divorce did
happen during the time of Moses. During
the time of Jesus, Joseph considered divorce when he discovered Mary pregnant.
Divorce was
not encouraged in the Bible but it happened.
Jesus later spoke about divorce during the Old Testament times and said
Moses was too soft on the issue. In
Matthew 5 Jesus gave new parameters to further discourage it.
