How do I give God control of my life?

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ Matthew 22:37

Anybody in love is willing to give their life to another person.  It's why we have marriage.  People make lifetime commitments based on love.  When you get married, you give up control of your life and allow another in.

If you love God with everything you have, then giving him control will be no problem.  If you love him, then you trust him.  If you love him, then you will listen to him.  If you love him, then you will obey him.

Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me."  John 14:22-24

Judas Iscariot, one of Jesus' apostles, walked with Jesus for three years but was unwilling to give up control.  He did not want to obey.  Judas tried to do things his way.

Giving up control means shifting control from the things that used to run your life (the world) to God.  Jesus spoke to a rich man who inquired about being loved and accepted by God.

When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy. John 18:22-23

The rich man would not allow God to control him, but money.

Giving up control means listening to the new voice in your head that comes from the Holy Spirit, spoken to you through prayer, God's word and the relationship you have with God.  Every minute you must pay attention to the voice of God and say "Yes, Lord."

Giving up control is a decision by decision process.  Every small decision you make is an opportunity to give control over to God.

Giving up control involves loving, listening and obeying.
