Numbers 33 gives us a detailed itinerary for the Israelites time in the desert. It very specifically details each movement over the 40 years in the desert. There are 42 legs of the trip mentioned. That’s approximately one trip a year. Not too bad. It gives you some time to settle, then move.

Around the eleventh trip, they received the instructions for the tabernacle and built it, so they moved the tabernacle only 31 times in 38 years.

They probably were glad to move around a little, see some new sights. The harder part was facing off on enemies who felt threatened and attacked.
