God will forgive you for committing
suicide only if you have confessed with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and
believed in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, then you would be
saved from any sin that you committed.
Time and legend have made some sins unforgivable.
Suicide is one of those. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that suicide is an
unforgivable sin.
Judas is the most famous victim of
suicide (Matthew 27:5). As the betrayer of Jesus, who felt tremendous guilt
after the act, Judas hung himself in a field. Since Satan entered him and used
him as his instrument, Judas is considered unforgivable by our standards.
Just because Judas committed suicide,
doesn’t mean that all suicide is unforgivable. Suicide is murder and murderers
have been forgiven throughout the Bible (Moses, David, etc.) Self murder is the
same crime of hate than a person-against-person murder.
Suicide shows a lack of faith for God
to resolve that conflict that so troubles a person. We all have lapses of faith
and some people go to drastic measures to self-resolve them.
Suicide is also very selfish. The
victim thinks of relieving their own pain instead of the pain of others. He or
she never considers how that death will impact others for years and years to
come. Their suicide will traumatize and
cause others to sin in the future.
God has always forgiven murder, lack of
faith and selfishness, all components of suicide. Why couldn’t God forgive suicide too?
Many believe we should keep the mystery
of suicide under wraps and allow people to think suicide is unforgivable so
people won’t try it. Unfortunately that’s not biblical and if people turn to
the Bible for the right answers, maybe they’ll find relief for their situation.
If someone is truly a believer, then
they know that God has a plan for them and he promises to be with them through
the valley of the shadow of death.
If someone professes faith in God, then
they know that God loves them and watches over them.
If someone is at the end of their rope,
then they need to look up to find their help.
However we all know that in extreme
circumstances, people who are overcome by heavy emotional issues, chemical
imbalances or traumatic guilt may turn to suicide. It’s sad, but true.
It’s not suicide that is
unforgivable. It’s someone’s lack of
belief that Jesus Christ came to the earth to forgive us for our sins, dying on
the cross so we can have an eternal relationship with God that condemns
us. While suicide may show one’s extreme
depression, it does not necessarily show one’s lack of faith.
While suicide is not a good option, it
is forgivable.
