How is the Koran similar to the Bible?

The Koran and the Bible are similar in some ways. Both believe...
  • There is one God.
  • God is described as Compassionate, Merciful, Forgiving.
  • God created the world and in nature we find sustenance.
  • Adam sinned, thus man is sinful.
  • Satan is real and evil. He is a liar.
  • All blessings come from God.
  • God knows all our thoughts.
  • God is just and must bring justice to those that oppose him.
  • God does not want us to worship idols.
  • They agree that God worked in the lives of Noah, Abraham, Lot, Lot’s wife, Isaac, Ishmael, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Saul, David (and Goliath), Solomon, Elijah, Ezekiel, Jonah, John the Baptist, Zachariah, Mary.
  • The Tower of Babel, the Flood, the Plagues in Egypt all occurred.
  • There are angels in the spirit world. Gabriel and Michael are mentioned.
  • God revealed information to prophets and apostles.
  • John the Baptist was born miraculously to Zachariah.
  • Jesus was born of a virgin.
  • Jesus was a holy man of God.
  • Jesus did many miracles.
  • God inspires Scripture.
  • We must live a pure, sinless life.
  • Many, when they read these holy books, stubbornly refuse to accept these messages.
  • Our souls are eternal.
  • There is a judgment day and it is forthcoming.
  • God is our judge.
  • There is a Heaven or Paradise.
  • There is a Hell.
  • There is a Day of Resurrection.
However, the areas they disagree are very important and cause the fundamental differences.  Obviously the Bible, which came first, had an impact on the themes and stories found in the Koran.
