How do I know if I am fulfilling God’s will?

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

People want to know if they are doing God’s will, which usually interprets into “Am I in the right job/going to the right school/moving to the right place?”

Doing God’s will is not so much our career choices and relocation opportunities. It’s a lifestyle.

Mark 3:35 says if we do God’s will we are brothers and sisters with Jesus. It’s a relationship.

John 7:17 says if we do God’s will we will understand Jesus’ teaching. It’s a standard that will follow.

2 Corinthians 8:5 says that people gave themselves to the Lord, fulfilling God’s will. It’s an attitude of surrender.

1 Thessalonians 4 talks about living a life of sinlessness and purity. That is God’s will too.

1 Peter 3:17 says God’s will is that we suffer for Christ.

These are questions to ask ourselves to see if we fulfilling God’s will. According to Romans 12:2, we are not following the world’s pattern, we are renewing our minds and from that we can determine and test God’s good, pleasing and perfect will.

You cannot know if you are doing God’s will by looking at how your life is going. Just because bad things are happening, does not mean you are outside God’s will. Would Jesus heading to the cross say, “Wow, what did I do wrong? Am I doing God’s will?” Of course he was.

God’s will is confirmed if you are doing exactly what the Bible tells you to do.
