Are we going to be nude in heaven?

After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. Revelation 7:9

“Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. Revelation 22:14

There are four possible answers to this:

ROBES: When John gave us a glimpse into heaven through Revelation, he speaks of people wearing white robes of righteousness. So some believe we wear literal robes in heaven. But is it a literal article of clothing or a figurative expression of people who have been cleansed of their sins? Most would side with the figurative expression since it talks of those who “wash their robes” and it literally doesn’t mean that we do laundry or that our washing actually cleanses our sins.

SIN: Since there is no sin or temptation in heaven, it would be difficult for many to exist in heaven with so much nakedness. I don’t know of one person who could walk through a nudist colony and not sin. Just because I’m in heaven, doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten what a beautiful body looks like.

COMFORT: Many of us feel comfortable in certain clothing. It gives us protection, support. It allows us to express ourselves. Why would God force us to wear a 2,000 year old clothing line? Was that the most practical, most comfortable clothing ever created by man? How does jeans and a T-shirt seem to you? Anyone want to wear a suit for eternity?

CLOTHES MAKERS: Finally, since heaven is a place of personal expression, many who made clothes on earth may want to express their love toward others by making clothes for others.

Since Jesus is going to return and hit the reboot button for heaven and earth, doesn’t that mean we all become naked like Adam and Eve? Nudity for Adam and Eve was easy. They were married and the only two people on earth. God had just made their bodies perfectly – probably the best he ever made. There was no comparison. They were not nude before their children came into the world. So this appears to be a standard of existence for Adam & Eve alone, not necessarily for the rest of us in eternity.
